Finding An Online Business

Finding an online business is easy. Finding one that is worth your time and money takes careful research. Common sense can guide you past the hype of most instant money companies. Just skip them. If you are totally new to the Internet, surf sites related to your business interests. But do more serious research with a mentor before you dive in.

If you already have a business mentor, have some serious conversations. How much will this cost up front? Do you have the financial and emotional resources to handle what starting an online business will require? What are the pitfalls that your mentor encountered? How can you avoid them? What strategies does the company have to help you through the lean times?

Look at your priorities right now, is this the best time to act on finding an online business? Or will you be preoccupied with personal health or other family issues? Consider your goals and resources. There are many different kinds of online businesses. It helps to know what you want. Can you afford it right now? How much money are you willing and able to invest in your business? How long can you wait for your first income check from your online business?

Look at the history of the site of interest. Use Alexa or Spyfu to get a broader picture of their market and competition. Is it the kind of work you imagine yourself doing? Send an email to their customer support service to see how they handle their clients.

Use Google to see what their clients and representatives are saying in articles and forums about the company, its products and its services. Look up the people involved. What kind of professional ratings do they have? Are they members of the Better Business Bureau?

Evaluate negative information. People tend to complain rather than praise. Boy Scouts and churches both get negative press. Be wary of someone telling you how bad their competition is. Look for integrity.

Ask yourself and others the same kinds of questions you would to investigate a standard “brick and mortar” business while you are finding an online business. Call the CEO with some solid questions after your research. Be proactive. If the CEO has no time for you, look again.

Your future hangs on these choices. Take your time and look carefully before you leap. That’s your best strategy for successfully finding an online business.
