MLM Training – Can You Build An MLM Business Without Being Good At Sales?

Being a network marketer for more than 12 years, I’ve met thousands and thousands of people. One of the questions that I get asked a lot is, “Can I be successful in ABC company even if I don’t know how to sell, or don’t have any experience in sales?” In this short and simple article, I will go ahead and make two points that will address and answer this question from my perspective.

First, I think it’s important to identify what “sales” is from the perspective of the person asking this question. In most cases, the person asking the question has a pre-conceived notion and definition of what sales is or what a salesperson is. Their picture of a salesperson is someone who is pushy and obnoxious. They picture a used car salesman or someone who is out to convince people to buy something they don’t want or need.

In network marketing, while sales have to made in order for you to get paid, you can’t succeed being a pushy salesperson. You will never build a large and loyal customer base by convincing people to buy your products and services. In fact, the only way to build a large customer base, that will pay you long-term income, is to have a group of happy and satisfied customers. In other words, you want to have customers that will pay for your products and services because they truly want it, and not because you twisted their arm to get it.

In network marketing, you have to learn how to sort and not sell. Your job is to simply share the message and expose people to the information, and let the numbers work for you. Typically, no matter what your product or service is, if you expose people, you’ll have a percentage that won’t buy and a certain percentage of people that will buy without you having to answer a hundred questions. The key is to simply give the information to enough people. Trust me, assuming you have a high quality product or service, you will make tons of sales without having to convince or twist people’s arms to buy as long as you’re exposing enough people.

The other point I want to make is that you never have to sell something to someone who is already interested in buying what you have. In other words, if you can simply position yourself directly in front of people who are already looking for your products and services, they will happily buy from you without you having to convince them to do so. That’s why it’s so important that you learn the right marketing techniques and tactics that will allow you to get in front of your target audience. No matter what your product or service is, I guarantee you there is an existing market for it. By targeting the existing market of customers that are looking for your product or service already, and not trying to sell to people who have no interest in your products, you will make tons of sales and not have the stress and tension of trying to be a salesperson to everyone you come across.

If you can simply develop the right mindset towards making sales in this industry and you can get the right marketing training, you can make a lot of sales and experience success in this industry without you having to be the “traditional”, obnoxious salesperson that everybody runs away from.
