Getting Your Point Across with 4 Simple Questions...
This post is all about learning – yes I said “Learning” – how to get your point across to any personality by asking 4 simple questions.
My point here is to show you the secret to getting your point across to 99% of your audience by answering 4 simple questions.
It’s not about talking louder, providing more examples, or handing out samples.
It’s about understanding how we all learn and take in information – especially NEW information.
This theory was first developed by David Kolb, an educational theorist that created the Learning Style Inventory (LSI).
The act of getting your point across is based on the LSI model.
LSI looks like this: There are four types of “learner” personalities in the world:
1. Salesmen – they are the persuaders and the motivators.
2. Scholastics – they like concrete objectives and outcomes.
3. Technicals – they like operations and processes.
4. Advocates – they are the marketers and the creative minds. They focus on opportunities.
Where does all of this lead into getting your point across and being persuasive?
Well, when we’re presenting an idea to a group of people, not all of them are of the same Learning personality. We need to cater to all four of the types at once to be effective in what we’re trying to accomplish.
Now, each type of personality has a different mindset of questions they need answered to make sure they get the point. It’s in our nature to want to understand what the actual point is.
Just look at your own life, do you feel better when you know the point or goal? Or, do you feel better when you have no clue as to what was being asked of you?
It’s natural that we’re all answer seekers in any situation.
So, here’s the key to this concept – each group asks different questions.
1. Salesmen ask “Why”?
2. Scholastics ask “What For”?
3. Technicals ask “How”?
4. Advocates/marketers ask “What If”?
Now, when we accomplish answering each of these questions, we are more effective in getting our point across.
How do we do that?
Well, as internet marketers, we’re using a HUGE arsenal of marketing tools at our fingertips – video, articles, blogs, PPC, etc.
In each of those tools, we want to answer each of the questions I just listed above.
But, they can’t just be in any willy-nilly order. They need to be in an exact order or you will lose the audience you’re talking to.
Now, take for example myself. Say that I’m promoting an affiliate product for example “MLM Learning Tricks” (obviously a fake company or product).
In ANY marketing approach I use, I want to answer the audiences’ questions in this order for maximum effectiveness:
1. Why should I buy MLM Learning Tricks?
2. How will MLM Learning Tricks benefit me?
3. What will MLM Learning Tricks do?
4. What will MLM Learning Tricks accomplish?
5. How does MLM Learning Tricks do what you say it will?
6. What creative things can you do with MLM Learning Tricks?
Your approach is up to you in how you do this. For me, I prefer video. It gets my personality out there along with my face, name, and voice. And it’s VERY easy to answer these six simple questions in order.
Keep in mind, the answers you give will ultimately forge the persons mind one way or another. Either you’ll capture then, or you’ll lose them.
But either way, you now have the tools at your disposal to answer the questions I listed above.
It’s up to you to decide how to put them to use.
