How To Create Lead Capture Pages That Convert?

I decided to write this article because this was one area I struggled early on in my online, network marketing career. I had started making money online, finally, which means I had the marketing skills in place.  I mean, I was getting clicks all over the place.  You name it, I was generating leads all over the internet; from my press releases, video marketing, and pay-per-click campaigns.  The problem was that many of the capture pages that were helping me to generate my lead flow were created through my membership with other companies.

On the one hand, being a member of such companies did initially give me an extra advantage over other people who were involved with companies that did not offer such a service, it also left me handicapped once changes in the market place occurred.  Because someone else was creating my capture pages for me, I had not developed a skill in the area of designing my own lead capture pages.  Thus, I hit a wall with a couple of my, more effective, marketing strategies.

Before moving on, I will suggest to those who can afford it, that you can hire services to create your websites, banners, capture pages, etc for you.  But, I know many people who are just getting started with their business and just learning, do not have money to invest in such services and I don't suggest that you do. I think it is good, at least starting out, to accumulate as many skills as possible before you start delegating tasks to others.  In the long run, I feel it makes you less dependent on others, and more dependent on yourself.  Plus, once you start getting results in your business stemming from just your efforts, you will have the confidence to rely more on you; knowing that your business is in good hands.  Once you have established trust in your own abilities and have a successful business, delegate your work to others leaving you to focus on just income producing activities (IPA's).

When Google decided to make changes by eliminating duplicate sites in their paid advertising, and other companies started to follow Google's lead, this pretty much hurt one of my more effective marketing methods, pay-per-click and search engine optimization (SEO).  I still had my other marketing methods working for me, but I wanted all of my oars in the water, figure of speech.

So, I decided to do some serious research, which every entrepreneur, online or offline needs to learn how to do.  After all, entrepreneurs don't just earn money, we are also problem solvers.  I had a problem and I needed it solved immediately.

Below, I will share with you my discoveries I made during my research into the subject of "How Do You Create Capture Pages That Convert".

I break it down into a 5 step process:

1. Capture Page Headline

The first step is an obvious one, your headline.  The headline is the most important element in the capture page or sales page. The headline needs to be attention grabbing.  It is the one thing that will have the most impact.  It is suggested that you test various different headline to determine which one is the most effective.

Try to focus on the biggest benefit for the reader.  Your goal should be to inform your readers, in your headline, what is in it for them.  Marketing online is all about the prospect, not about you.

2. List of Benefits

After your headline, a short paragraph that expands a little on the promise made by your headline.  If there are additional benefits to someone opting in, and there should be, you can list them using bullet points. Here, is where you need to think about the words used in your content. Make your words powerful.

The idea behind all of these suggestions is to get people to focus on the important aspects of your message.  Most people surfing the internet are going not going to want to spend a whole lot of time on your site.  You have 3 seconds to capture their attention.  If your page is not able to accomplish this, you will lose them.  Using bullets points makes it easier for your audience to read.

Try to include words that provoke emotion to the reader and entice them to take action.  Some suggested words to use include: discover, secrets, breakthrough, amazing, new, free, hot, bargain, etc.

3. Call To Action

People need to be told what to do next, thus you need to do this by eliciting a call to action.

After your list of benefits, have a call to action; such as,

"To discover the secrets to marketing success, enter your name and email address in the form now"

Be sure to put a call to action on the button of your opt-in form; something other than "Submit". An example would be "Send Me FREE Secrets".

4. Opt-in Form

Also, since this is a capture page, we need to include the capture form, but what is the best location to place a capture form?

First, the capture form should be in a prominent location, meaning above the fold.  For something to be above the fold, means that one should not have to scroll down in order to see it.  Your capture form should be in a location so that your audience does not have to use their mouse to scroll down and see it.

Your capture form should be below or somewhere within view, after the call to action.

You can also include an additional capture form further down the page, and it is suggested you do so if your capture form is a long sales page.

5. Privacy Statement

Since people hate junk mail and have concerns about their email being shared with strangers online, it is considered best practices to include a privacy statement on your capture page. Therefore, ensure your audience that that their information will not be shared and that you respect their privacy.

By applying all of the suggested elements above, you are well on your way to creating capture pages that convert for any online marketing.  You still need to test to see which one converts the best.  Therefore, play around with the headings, your bullet points and call to action.  Initially, use more than one capture page and test, repeatedly, until you are generating the numbers you are looking for.

Much success to all of you....
